Consumption of EPA and DHA is associated with more advanced vocabulary

The size of vocabulary is considered an indication of the range of knowledge and the level of thinking of people. A wide vocabulary is useful in school, at work and in social settings; it enable us to better understand the ideas of others, as well as communicate our thoughts and ideas more effectively. Moreover, vocabulary also has a strong relation with mathematics: to solve problems in maths, students use numbers and maths symbols; if they do not recognize a symbol or if they misinterpret its meaning, math performance suffers, so that when we talk about vocabulary, we refer to something more than words. Knowing this, it is easy to understand because an advanced vocabulary is considered the most important single factor in academic and business success (skills in literacy and numeracy, are applicable in most jobs).

It has been showed that consumption of fish providing the recommended amount of EPA + DHA of around 0.45 g/day (compared to no fish intake) is associated with more advanced vocabulary and higher academic qualifications in healthy adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age. Here is an easy way to help your children. And, if they do not like fish, supplementation with fish oil can be a good alternative.
